I needed to get a musty cigarette-smoke smell out of some used purses that I received. I had already tried Lysol disinfectant spray and fabric softener sheets, as well as letting the purses hang for three days with the fabric softener sheets inside them. None of this worked to get rid of the smell.

Then I made a homemade Febreze that worked instantly. Here is my recipe:

* 1 tablespoon baking soda
* 2 cups distilled water
* 7 drops Thieves oil blend
* 5 drops Lemon

Add the ingredients in the order listed into a clean spray bottle. Shake well before each use.

I used this spray on fabric as well as on vinyl, and it worked right away. The purses no longer smell!

NOTE: If the mixture contains too much baking soda, it will leave a slight residue on hard surfaces.
