Note: Not all essential oil brands are the same, and you get what you pay for. If you expect to achieve results similar to those described in this testimonial, then ensure that you are using oils from pesticide-free plants. Also, the brand should use 100% pure, high-quality essential oils that do not contain any synthetic additives. Do your own research or ask a trusted friend to find a brand that is reputable. Buyer beware.

A little over a month ago I was diagnosed with pityriasis rosea. (If you have searched this topic, you likely know what it is and how absolutely horrible the itching can get.)

I tried everything from over-the-counter pills like Benadryl, hydrocortisone creams and sprays and calamine lotion. NOTHING worked, and I was scratching sores into my skin all over my body (until they bled) because it itched so terribly. I even tried essential oils, but nothing seemed to be helping.

Finally, while I was home for a break for a few hours while my son was in the hospital after surgery, I was desperate and sat down to figure out something that I could try. I knew that I needed a carrier oil, and I love almond oil. It is my favorite and makes my skin feel amazing without the yucky slippery feeling, so I decided to use almond oil in a bottle.

Remember, I said that I was desperate to get some relief and wanted to make sure that this recipe would be potent enough to work. The rash is a viral rash, so I decided to use the Thieves essential oil blend because it kills germs and bacteria and is antiviral. Then I wanted something to help take away the itch and to help my skin, so I chose Lavender essential oil.

This is the recipe I mixed up in a small bottle:

* 2 to 3 ounces carrier oil
* 20 drops Thieves
* 20 drops Lavender

I had my daughter rub the mixture on my back where I could not reach, and I applied it on my legs. At first I did not notice much of a difference and was almost to the point of tears because I was so desperate for relief and disappointed that it was not working.

While I began preparing to go back to the hospital to see my son, the itching just went away. I literally jumped for joy! I made sure I took the bottle with me and applied it once more that night.

For the first few days, I applied it morning, noon, and night because the itching would come back around those times. As the days have passed, I have been putting it on less and less. The sores on my body have been vanishing, and my skin is super soft now. I can go a couple days without putting on the mixture, and I am no longer scratching. If it does start to itch, I just apply some more.

The rash is still spreading, so it is not gone yet. But it is also not as bad as it was, and the new spots are not scaly and super itchy like they were before I started using this mixture. Though I likely have another 6 weeks or so to deal with this rash, right now the itch is under control, and my skin is much improved.

Supporting Scientific Studies
1.Associated topics: virus — "The presence of beta-caryophyllene in many essential oils might contribute strongly to their antiviral ability. These results indicate that phenylpropanoids and sesquiterpenes present in essential oils contribute to their antiviral activity against HSV [herpes simplex virus]."Link
2.Associated topics: virus — "Taken together, we found an essential oil blend [Orange, Clove, Cinnamon Bark, Eucalyptus, and Rosemary] notably attenuates influenza virus PR8 infection in vitro via inhibition of viral protein synthesis at the post-transcription level. The lack of toxicity and potent specific inhibition ability make the essential oil a possible antiviral drug for influenza virus proliferation control and treatment."Link
3.Associated topics: skin — "Local application of frankincense essential oil may provide a non-surgical treatment alternative, with no or minimal side effect for carcinoma in situ, minimally invasive carcinoma and pre-cancerous conditions such as actinic keratosis."Link
4.Associated topics: skin — "[M]any curative properties attributed to various plants in indigenous medicine are also present in their essential oils.... These oils exert a number of general effects from the pharmacological viewpoint. When applied locally, the essential oils mix readily with skin oils, allowing these to attack the infective agents quickly and actively.... In vitro studies [were] conducted by the author on antimicrobial and anthelmintic [destructive to parasitic worms] properties of some essential oils...."Link
5.Associated topics: itching-(Pruritus) — "[T]ea tree oil seems to be a more effective anti-eczematic agent than zinc oxide and clobetasone butyrate...."Link
6.Associated topics: skin — "[One] method employed for wound healing is the application of lavender oil. Due to its antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory, and analgesic properties, it is thought to prevent wound infections and to play a role in reducing pain by lowering inflammation.... Lavender oil is known to have antibacterial, antifungal, sedative, and/or antidepressant effects.... In addition to its antimicrobial effects, the anti-inflammatory analgesic properties of lavender oil have also been emphasized... The use of L. Angustifolia [lavender] is particularly recommended in chronically infected wounds due to its immune-stimulating and antimicrobial effects. There are also reports that lavender oil reduces scar tissue."Link
7.Associated topics: skin,virus — "Tea tree oil (TTO) (Melaleuca alternifolia) has been used recently as an effective topical application for the treatment of skin infections due to a variety of aetiological microbial agents, including mainly bacterial infections. We detail... the successful treatment with TTO of a paediatric patient with warts on her right middle finger. TTO was applied topically once daily to the lesions for 12 days, with a successful outcome, including complete re-epithelization of the infected areas. The case highlights the potential use of TTO in the treatment of common warts due to human papilloma virus."Link
8.Associated topics: virus — "Essential oils from anise, hyssop, thyme, ginger, camomile and sandalwood were screened for their inhibitory effect against herpes simplex virus type 2 (HSV-2) [genital herpes]. A clearly dose-dependent virucidal activity against HSV-2 could be demonstrated for all essential oils tested. Chamomile oil exhibited a high selectivity index and seems to be a promising candidate for topical therapeutic application as virucidal agents for treatment of herpes genitalis."Link
