If you expect to achieve results similar to those described in this testimonial, then ensure that you are using oils from pesticide-free plants. Also, the brand should use 100% pure, high-quality essential oils that do not contain any synthetic additives. Do your own research or ask a trusted friend to find a brand that is reputable. Buyer beware.
About 9 winters ago my 9 year old son and I were living in Colorado high country, in a household with 2 pre-school age children. My exchange for living there was offering some child care and housekeeping. We used the same kitchen and dining rooms as the other home occupants. That whole family was on antibiotics for strep throat 3 times!
I bought my first bottle of the Thieves oil blend right away and I put a few drops on our throats and feet, topically. We sailed through using this amazing oil three times daily, with no sign of anything until the third time around, when I got a tell-tale scratch in my throat.
So we started gargling a drop of Thieves in water and alternated with Lavender oil the same way. The relief those oils provided was immediate. I was careful to be using the oils 4x daily at that time, for 2 - 3 days after all symptoms were gone. I didn't get sick and the symptoms turned around quickly.
What amazes me is how these folks knew what I was doing and they didn't want any themselves!

[The] oils [with cinnamon bark, lemongrass, and thyme being most potent] and their major constituents were shown to be effective against various bacteria tested.... These results indicate that the antibacterial action of essential oils was most effective when at high vapor concentration for a short time." | Link |
2. | Associated topics: sore-/-scratchy-throat — "Streptococcus pyogenes [strep] plays an important role in the pathogenesis of tonsillitis.... [T]hyme, cinnamon, lemongrass, tea tree, lavender, oregano, clove, palmarosa, or cajeput [melaleuca] EOs [essential oils] are known to be active against Streptococcus pyogenes, while oregano, basil, mint [peppermint], rosemary, and lavender EOs are known to inhibit another Gram-positive bacteria, Staphylococcus aureus [staph].... We showed that cinnamon presented the higher activity against S. pyogenes compared to the other EOs tested.... 14 [essential oils] showed antibacterial activity against Streptococcus pyogenes.... Among them Cinnamomum verum [cinnamon bark], Cymbopogon citratus [Xiang Mao], Thymus vulgaris CT thymol [thyme], Origanum compactum [oregano], and Satureja montana [Mountain Savory] essential oils exhibited significant antibacterial activity. These data suggest that caraway fractions are both effective and possess anti-colitic activity irrespective of the dose and route of administration." | Link |
