Note: Not all essential oil brands are the same, and you get what you pay for. If you expect to achieve results similar to those described in this testimonial, then ensure that you are using oils from pesticide-free plants. Also, the brand should use 100% pure, high-quality essential oils that do not contain any synthetic additives. Do your own research or ask a trusted friend to find a brand that is reputable. Buyer beware.

Last week my niece woke up with every symptom of the flu - headache, body aches and fever (around 101 degrees). As the day progressed, so did her fever. By 10:00 pm that evening, her fever had reached 104.5 degrees!

Before rushing her off to the emergency room, her mom decided to mix a few drops of Peppermint oil with water in a spritzer bottle.

She gently sprayed down her daughter (avoiding her face - concentrating on the body), and then monitored the fever over the next few hours. In just a few hours, her fever dropped down to normal (98 degrees). Her fever stayed down, and over the next day she continued to feel better! Amazing!

Also, my sister decided to keep the Peppermint water to spritz her ironing, and loves the way it smells - clean and refreshing (says she doesn't mind ironing any more)!

Supporting Scientific Studies
1.Associated topics: flu-(Influenza) — "Taken together, we found an essential oil blend [Orange, Clove, Cinnamon Bark, Eucalyptus, and Rosemary] notably attenuates influenza virus PR8 infection in vitro via inhibition of viral protein synthesis at the post-transcription level. The lack of toxicity and potent specific inhibition ability make the essential oil a possible antiviral drug for influenza virus proliferation control and treatment."Link
2.Associated topics: headache — "Lavender, mint [peppermint], orange, rose, chamomile, rosemary, and sage were used.... Depression levels in the touch-music-aroma therapy group... showed a larger decrease than in the... control groups [that did not include aromatherapy].... [FMS] symptoms such as restless sleep, headache, morning fatigue, exhaustion, feeling like crying, and bowel complaints were also significantly reduced."Link
3.Associated topics: headache — "Peppermint and its active ingredient menthol have long been used for the treatment of various pain conditions including headache.... Menthol solution can be an efficacious, safe and tolerable therapeutic option for the abortive treatment of migraine."Link
4.Associated topics: fever-/-febrile -/-temperature-/-(Pyrexia) — "[W]e studied the anti-inflammatory and gastroprotective effects of C. citratus [Lemongrass] and E. citriodora [Lemon Eucalyptus] essential oils on formol-induced edema and acetic acid induced abdominal cramps in Wistar rats.... In vivo analysis and histological assay showed that the two essential oils displayed significant dose-dependent edema [swelling] inhibition effect over time. They displayed strong analgesic [pain-relieving] and antipyretic [fever-reducing] properties similar to that induced by 50 mg/kg of acetylsalicylate of lysine.... This work demonstrates the anti-inflammatory property of Cymbopogon citratus [Lemongrass] and Eucalyptus citriodora [Lemon Eucalyptus], suggesting their potential role as adjuvant therapeutic alternatives in dealing with inflammatory-related diseases."Link
5.Associated topics: headache — "Lavender essential oil has been used as an anxiolytic [anxiety] drug, a mood stabilizer, a sedative, spasmolytic [muscle spasms], antihypertensive [high blood pressure], antimicrobial, analgesic [pain] agent as well as a wound healing accelerator.... The present study suggests that inhalation of lavender essential oil may be an effective and safe treatment modality in acute management of migraine headaches."Link
6.Associated topics: headache — "We report on a patient whose severe post-ECT headaches responded completely to methyl salicylate [wintergreen] ointment, applied to the area of his temporalis and masseter muscles. Topical methyl salicylate is generally well tolerated and may be a viable option for some patients with post-ECT headache."Link
7.Associated topics: headache — "The result for the primary end point was validated by the amelioration of the following secondary end points: headache on bending, frontal headache, sensitivity of pressure points of trigeminal nerve, impairment of general condition, nasal obstruction, and rhinological secretion.... In patients with acute nonpurulent rhinosinusitis, timely treatment with cineole [a.k.a. eucalyptol... found in eucalyptus, camphor laurel, laurus nobilis, tea tree, mugwort, basil, wormwood, rosemary, sage, and cannabis] is effective and safe before antibiotics are indicated."Link
8.Associated topics: headache — "This controlled study showed for the first time that a 10% peppermint oil in ethanol solution efficiently alleviates tension-type headache. Peppermint oil thus proves to be a well-tolerated and cost-effective alternative to usual therapies."Link
