Blunt Trauma To Shin

At the pet store where my husband works, they have large plastic strips hanging in the doorway that separates the hot humid outside air from the cool air inside the store. My husband, in a hurry, rushed through the doorway and smacked the lower part of his shin very smartly on the edge of a steel dolly which another employee had left blocking the doorway. It hurt so badly he had to clock out and come home, a 15-minute drive.

When he got here, there was a bump on his shin literally the size of a duck's egg, and it was angry red and blue. . . and still equisitely tender. Since he wouldn't let me touch it, I sat him in the recliner, splashed it with several drops of Lavender oil, covered that with a washcloth and a bag of frozen peas (in the absence of crushed ice!), and put in a movie video to take his mind off it.

Before the video was half over, he had no more pain and started up out of his chair asking, "Why is there a bag of peas on my leg?!!" When I examined the area, the swelling was completely gone, and the skin was no longer red or blue. Just to be safe we added Lavender again at bedtime, and a bruise never developed at all.
