Note: Not all essential oil brands are the same, and you get what you pay for. If you expect to achieve results similar to those described in this testimonial, then ensure that you are using oils from pesticide-free plants. Also, the brand should use 100% pure, high-quality essential oils that do not contain any synthetic additives. Do your own research or ask a trusted friend to find a brand that is reputable. Buyer beware.
I live on 20 acres and frequently hike on my property. I also enjoy hiking at state parks and nature preserves. In Texas, especially during the spring and summer, chiggers are a REAL big problem.
For prevention, I usually use between 5-10 drops of Peppermint oil in the palm of one of my hands. Then I start at my ankles and rub around my ankles, feet, up my calves, behind my knees and up my thighs. I repeat this process on both legs if I'm going to be out for an extra long time.
If I know there is going to be a lot of high grass, I will also put a small amount under my breasts, the crease of the upper legs where they attach to the body (be VERY careful to avoid genitalia!) Also along my bra line and at my waist as those are also problematic areas for chiggers.
If in the event I forget to do this before going outside, and I do get chigger bites, then Peppermint oil will also help to ease the intense itching that comes along with getting those bites.
This works well for me and I no longer get chiggers as long as I follow this Peppermint protocol.
