We have a place out in the country which we call Pickle Creek Ranch. I was turning over the seed tray in the henhouse one day, and Blackbird, our rooster, attacked me with great force - like BAM - hit my hand. I was out of the henhouse in a flash! Talk about being beaten up by a bird!
I ran to the porch bleeding and to my horror discovered a talon sticking out of my wrist! I was bleeding profusely and saw that he had also torn a chunk out of the top of my right hand and punctured me between my fingers.
My other half, Jan Paul, took me over to the sink, flushed out the wounds, and put my hand in ice water while I hung over the sink hyperventilating. Maybe I'm a wimp or something, but this totally FREAKED ME OUT. I almost passed out!
It really hurt and became VERY swollen, so much so that you couldn't see any wrinkles in-between my fingers or anything. But I was thankful that I could at least text with one finger to document while laying on the couch! LOL. I was still in shock though.
Luckily I keep some essential oils at the ranch and dropped Peace & Calming directly on the wounds, layering Lavender around the wounds (but not on them) and alternating the oils a few times that afternoon. I had to keep it bandaged in-between, but the swelling finally reduced somewhat, even though I could not use my hand for a few days. I continued to layer the oils.
What really impressed me was that I was expecting to see bruising, but I had NO bruising except for on my knuckle where I didn't realize he had hit me there too! And there was some very faint bruising on the underside of my hand where I had not applied any oils. This to me was a true testimony to the power of the oils, and I am so glad I had them on hand out in the country!
We have since returned Blackbird to his original owner; we did not have rooster crockpot stew! He was a beautiful rooster and a great protector of our hens, but I could not trust him anymore.
