At age 60 my knees had begun to ache at night. I could no longer squat without pain. Suddenly I developed what turned out to be severe bursitis in one knee, so severe I had to use crutches for a week.
I went to my primary care physician while waiting for an appointment with the orthopedist. He injected the knee with cortisone, which gave me much relief.
Two weeks later an MRI showed significant arthritis in the knee. By then I was pretty much over the episode, so the orthopedist advised taking 4 Aleve daily for 6 weeks, which I did. I still experienced stiffness and some pain immediately upon getting up after sitting for a while. I would sometimes take 8 to 12 ibuprofen a day.
Exactly one year later the same thing happened to the other knee. I had to borrow a wheelchair and use a cane for a week, the pain was so bad. I immediately started taking the Aleve, and by the time I saw the orthopedist, I was much better, so nothing else was done. He said to continue taking Aleve, and if the pain worsened he could do a cortisone injection.
A few months later I even went to a rheumatologist because I wanted to see what I might do to prevent future episodes. He said the regimen I was doing was about all I could do, and if the pain got bad he would do cortisone injections.
I have to admit I even considered getting one of those raised toilet seats because I had to let out a groan just sitting down and getting up off the toilet seat.
A couple of months later I was introduced to Young Living, and I sought out a regimen to improve my health and mobility. For 3 months I took 4 Sulfurzyme, 3 to 4 AgilEase capsules, and 2 ounces of NingXia Red juice daily.
I applied 3-5 drops of each of the Deep Relief oil blend to both knees every night for a month. The second month I applied the PanAway oil blend neat and the third month I applied Clove oil neat.
After 3 months my knees were much better. I decreased my dose of AgilEase and Sulfurzyme and no longer used NingXia Red. I began applying a few drops of the Wintergreen oil neat to my knees at bedtime.
I would often get busy and forget, so I stopped the Sulfurzyme and AgilEase for several months, and, even though I was still pain free, I have recently begun to take them again occasionally to support my well being.
It has now been a year, and I have no pain or stiffness when I get up from sitting. I can walk up and down stairs without holding to the rail. It is a wonderful feeling to walk down a long hall at work with no difficulty. I have found out firsthand what Young Living essential oils can do support one's health.
Update: March 2017 - I am still enjoying the improvement in mobility and comfort. I have had no repeat episodes. I drink NingXia Red daily and use various oils to support my health and immune system.

1. | Associated topics: mobility — "We examined the evidence regarding the effect of herbal medicine on pain in people with non-specific low-back pain (LBP).... Lavender essential oil applied by acupressure appeared effective in reducing pain and improving flexibility compared to conventional treatment." | Link |
2. | Associated topics: joints, osteoarthritis, arthritis — "Ruxiang (Gummi olibanum), the dried gum resin of Boswellia carterii (BC) [frankincense], has been used in traditional Chinese medicine to alleviate pain and inflammation for thousands of years.... The data show that BC extract has significant anti-arthritic and anti-inflammation effects and suggest that these effects may be mediated via the suppression of pro-inflammatory cytokines." | Link |
3. | Associated topics: joints, osteoarthritis, arthritis — "We have demonstrated that Boswellia frereana [frankincense] prevents collagen degradation, and inhibits the production of pro-inflammatory mediators and MMPs. Due to its efficacy we propose that B. frereana should be examined further as a potential therapeutic agent for treating inflammatory symptoms associated with arthritis." | Link |
4. | Associated topics: joints — "Herbalists treat skin ailments, such as fungal infections (like candidiasis), wounds, eczema, and acne, with lavender oil. It is also used in a healing bath for joint and muscle pain. One study evaluating treatments for children with eczema found [that] it was therapeutic touch from the mother that improved symptoms; in other words, massage with and without essential oils (including lavender) both reduced the dry, scaly skin lesions. Another study found that lavender oil may improve pain control after surgery." | Link |
